TotalEnergies sponsors the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) while leaving a trail of devastation across Africa! Don't be fooled by TotalEnergies' “love for football” – they're distracting us from the truth. The fossil fuel industry pumps out a football stadium of oil every 3 hours 37 minutes, threatening a liveable future for all of Africa. Despite raking in a record $36 billion profit in 2022, Total keeps expanding its oil and gas exploration in Africa, wrecking the planet and devastating communities.
We refuse to let TotalEnergies advertise its way out of this mess and into African football. We must use this opportunity to say no to fossil fuel sponsorship of the sports we love, exposing the urgent need to halt all extractivist-based neo-colonial activities, the expansion of the fossil fuel industry, and its destructive projects across the African continent. Total’s sponsorship deal ends this year. Let’s tell the head of CAF that fossil fuel sponsorship of AFCON ends this year too.
Will you quickly sign this petition demanding the CAF President commits to ending fossil fuel sponsorship of the beautiful game?
