WHO PAYS FOR THE DAMAGE FROM EXTREME WEATHER?
If you spill someone’s drink, you buy them another. If you break someone's window, you pay to fix it.
However, every time a tornado rips through a community, every time water floods a home or hospital, every time heat waves wreak havoc on our land, health and wellbeing we pay the price.
The oil, coal and gas corporations who fueled the extreme weather? They pay NOTHING.
Most of us can agree this is deeply unfair, so let’s change it.
By making polluters pay, we can:

- Protect people’s health: fund hospitals and emergency services to treat people during climate disasters
- Equip first responders: provide the tools and resources needed to respond to escalating wildfires, tornados, floods and droughts across Africa.
- Make homes and infrastructure climate-ready: upgrade housing, roads, rail and utilities in vulnerable communities across Africa to better withstand the impact of extreme weather.
- Provide a financial safety net: make sure disaster relief and rebuilding efforts are funded so families and communities aren’t left stranded when insurance fails.
- Stop making taxpayers pay: public funds should go to schools, healthcare, and public services - and not to clean up destruction caused by big oil, coal and gas companies.
Together, we can create a future where our communities are safe, our infrastructure is resilient, and our healthcare systems are protected.
