Protect world’s largest forest reserve

As if 72% wasn’t bad enough…

Following the announcement of the creation of the Kivu-Kinshasa Green Corridor in 2025, reports found that nearly three-quarters of it was served to oil giants on a silver platter.

But brand-new findings reveal an even more terrifying reality: mining permits are swallowing up what's left.

That means virtually 100% of this supposedly "protected" reserve is now under active corporate threat.

This corporate onslaught puts 6.5 million hectares of critical peatlands and 1 million hectares of community forests at immediate risk of land grabbing and irreversible destruction.

This is already the reality in places like Moanda, where DRC's mangrove forests are blanketed by toxic oil pollution driven by Perenco DRC’s relentless extraction.

This destruction is part of a devastating regional trend.

In neighbouring Cameroon, mining has surged 5,000% over the last 14 years, and a further 68,385 hectares of the Ebo Forest - a critical wildlife sanctuary and the ancestral home of the Banen people - is already being eyed for logging.

We believe that the rights of communities are best served by intact forests, which sustain millions of them. If you believe the same, please sign this petition.

Our Demands to the Congo Basin Climate Commission:

Freeze all new mining projects in protected areas of the Congo Basin as a first step toward limiting harmful extractive expansion and protecting communities and ecosystems.
Establish the Kivu-Kinshasa Green Corridor as a No-Go Zone through a moratorium on new destructive and extractive projects.
Stop the expansion of extractive projects in and around all protected areas of the Congo Basin, including the Ebo forest, Mangrove Marine Park and critical ecosystems.
