Tell the African Union: act now for Africa and the planet

GP0STTYUC

While greedy corporations scramble for Africa’s oil and gas, more severe and frequent floods and droughts are shattering communities.

That’s why all eyes will be on the African Union at the hugely important Africa Climate Summit.

The Union could either show courage to ensure Africa leads the world in a transition to 100% renewable, secure and affordable energy, or it could let big oil and extractive industries continue to plunge the planet into disaster after disaster.

Urge them to step up and lead by example!

That means:

  • Stop funding the catastrophic destruction of our climate by putting an end to costly and destructive fossil fuel subsidies

  • Establish a loss and damage fund financed by carbon tax revenue from fossil fuel companies to address adaptation.

  • Act to protect the socio-economic and historical significance of most African coastal states and our island nations as they are already facing the negative consequences of the climate crisis.

  • Move to prevent the loss of biodiversity in all spheres (marine and terrestrial), which is exacerbating the climate crisis.

  • Act decisively to protect carbon sinks, like peatlands and the pristine Congo Basin Forest from deforestation and oil exploration.

  • Divert from offsetting and false carbon market and biodiversity credit solutions.

To: The African Union

Lead by example, protect African biodiversity, end fossil fuels driving catastrophic climate change and invest in real solutions by shifting to solar and wind.

Stop Deep Sea Mining

In Africa, where biodiversity flourishes on land and in its surrounding seas, the deep sea is a treasure trove of biodiversity and home to untold wonders and possibilities. It is also one of our best allies against climate change. But a threat is coming: deep sea mining.
