Putting an end to overfishing in West Africa

West+Africa

Safeguard the oceans that small-scale fisherman depend on to live

Day by day, fishermen in West Africa are forced to take more risks in deep seas, just to put simple meals on their families’ tables. Chinese and European industrial fishing fleets empty the oceans, leaving little to local fishing communities.

Over the years, Greenpeace Africa has exposed and helped arrest illegal fishing. We are winning the battle to protect the natural beauty of our oceans, establish better fishery management policies in West Africa, and to safeguard the fishing communities’ livelihood. But we need to do more, and faster!

Help us expand the movement to protect our oceans.

Take the pledge to:

  • Support West African communities in their battle against industrial fishing fleets
  • Promote sustainable consumption of fish
Together we are rising, and affecting real, positive change in Africa. Sign and join the movement.

Stop new logging plans

Lifting the ban would put at risk an area of rainforest the size of France, resulting in land grabs, social conflict and the exacerbation of the climate and biodiversity crises.
